Room Integrity Testing
A fire suppression system is a highly effective and proven method of protecting your premises from the effects of fire. However, to ensure it works correctly, it is very important that Room Integrity Testing is carried out firstly when the system is initially installed and thereafter at least once a year to ensure the protected area remains adequately sealed.
Room integrity testing checks whether the room or enclosure where the fire suppression system has been installed is adequately sealed.
A fire suppression system is designed so that if the extinguishant is discharged into an area of risk, it is able to remain there for a minimum period of 10 minutes, from the initial activation of the fire alarm.
If the area of risk is inadequately sealed this can allow the fire suppression extinguishant to dissipate too quickly and not extinguish the fire. If the area of risk is sealed too tightly the extinguishant could cause internal structural damage to the enclosure when activated, which in turn could lead to damage which then allows the extinguishant to escape.
