Door Hold Open Devices

Hold Open Door Closers are used on fire doors to help prevent the spread of flames and smoke in the event of a fire.

A hold-open device can be installed to hold the fire doors in the open position until they are released, either manually or in the event of a fire, at which point the door closes automatically. There are a wide range of hold-open devices from door magnets to electromechanical overhead closers.

There are basically only three types of installation of hold-open devices; for low Grade systems, standard mechanical door closers and a battery-operated hold-open device that operates by way of an acoustic switch to release the fire door when the fire alarm activates.

For higher Grade systems either, fixed wired electromechanical overhead closers are installed, or wireless electromechanical overhead closers, both these device types are directly interfaced onto the fire alarm system.
